Forest was born and raised on Maui, Hawaii. Kim is part Hawaiian and was born and raised on the mainland US. We met at Cornell University in New York, where we enjoyed rock climbing and the changing seasons. After graduating we moved back to Maui, switched to surfing, and worked in the real estate and hotel industries.
In 1997 we entered the conservation industry, working as biologists for the University of Hawaii, and doing environmental consulting as Starr Environmental. We have continued that to today, though these days we spend more time in our garden than the big surf.
We're focused on Maui Nui (Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe), but work from Kona to Kure Atoll.
We provide botanical (plant), entomological (insect), and faunal (bird and bat) surveys in support of planning, permitting, research, and management efforts in the state of Hawaii.
We assist with:
Flora and Fauna Surveys
Land Planning and Management
Basic and Applied Research
